HOUSING AUTHORITY
Is a public body corporate and politic of the State of New Jersey created by the City of Newark under Local Redevelopment and Housing Law (N.J.S.A 40A:12A-1, et seq).
The Authority is responsible for the acquisition, development, modernization, operation and administration of public housing programs. NHA's programs are administered through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under the provision of the U.S. Housing Act of 1937, as amended.
The NHA's primary purpose is to provide safe, decent, sanitary and affordable housing to the elderly and low-income families in the City and to operate housing programs in accordance with federal legislation.
The NHA promotes competition in contracting; provides safeguards for maintaining a procurement system of quality and integrity; and, assures that NHA purchasing actions are in full compliance with applicable federal laws, HUD regulations, state and local laws.
